Art Journal Page 21

My daughter and I were talking about setting up a travel fund so that some day we could take a trip to Europe.  This is a dream we both have had for a long time and hope to some day be able to make our dreams come true.

Her dream place is London and Paris.  London has also has become one of my favorites since that country loves crafts.  They have some pretty cool craft magazine and supplies are to die for. My dream is to visit both Spain and Italy as well so I better start that fund, pronto!!  Here is the journal page our dream inspired!!

Some of the materials I used were:

  • Tim Holtz Distressed Stains
  • Dictionary paper for background
  • Inkadoo Marble stamps to add the cracks in the background
  • Bubble wrap for the circles.
  • Tim Holtz paper (washi) tape at the edges
  • The lady stamp was a flea market find and it did not have a label! Sorry!!!
  • I used some letter stencils to write the words.
New York happens to be one of my favorite places and luckily I only live about 4 hours away from it and have been able to visit a few times.  My husband and I love it at Christmas time.  Is full of life and so many different people, shops and theaters.  I have been lucky to see a few shows as well and hope to back soon.  My favorite Broadway show is the "Lion King." Beautiful production!

If you are lucky enough to travel to your dream places then let it inspire you and enjoy every minute of it. If your dream still not realized, then like me look at pictures and travel with your mind and creative soul!

Be safe!

Zenspirations #8

Along the Zenspirations theme I wanted to start practicing for a small greeting card set I want to create for Christmas gifts.  The set should be about home and these little houses are my obsession lately.  I tell you I can’t stop making them.  They are easy and have many possibilities for colors and lines that just bring a smile to your day.

The addition of the tree is to add more whimsical elements to the card and lets face it is another shape to add patterns to it and more glitz with my metallic gel pens (“The Write Dudes®).

This first picture is my drawing as I started coloring with the gel pens.

My finished little house!

Keep creating and remember that “Home is Where the Heart is!!

My Personal Zentangle® String Challenge!

I have been looking and following many other great and holy awesome Certified Zentangle Teachers and a lot of them participate in “The Diva Challenge.”  The work I’ve seen, blows my mind on how good they are and honestly I feel like a kindergarten kid competing against the teachers, so I haven’t had the nerve to even create a tile for the Challenge.  This is a personal issue and nothing to do with the challenge or the great ladies who participate in the challenge.  I guess I feel I don’t know enough tangles or have enough time to come up with ideas for it.  Lately, however, I’ve wanted to use more of the traditional methods and take my practice of Zentangle® to say, 1st grade level.

TanglePatterns-String-001
TanglePatterns String 001
Thinking smileAfter some thinking I thought to do my own self-challenge.  Using the TanglePatterns.com “string” section as a guide I will challenge myself to use those strings as inspiration. I will create traditional Zentangle® tiles without using stencils (my comfort zone go to supply), so I’m going to start with string 001.  This website has some great information and many, many links to all kinds of tangles and helpful information.  It is run by Linda Farmer, CZT and if you really like it throw her a donation.  The site is free but all that work she does deserves a little donation!

So, here I go, wish me luck and if you like the strings please click on the caption under the picture and it will direct you to TanglePatterns.com where you can download the string and find the creator and any other information you might need.

Please remember that ALL the strings are property of the creator and TanglePattern.com, so please contact them about any issues or questions. Do not overstep the copyright boundaries and lets all support and be nice to those with superior talents!!PeacePEACE IN THE CREATIVE WORLD!  (I know, I laid it out a little thick…Rolling on the floor laughing)  As soon as I complete the tile using this string I will do a quick post to show off my kindergarten skills!!!!

Be safe and fill your soul with creativity and most of all be safe…

Zenspirations #7

I have been posting a few drawings lately from my Zenspiratiions® sketch book and if you like more information click here, and you can see Joanne Fink’s blog and more information about her books.  I drew this one a while ago during a plane ride from Florida and really went all out with the color.  I just took a bunch of gel pens and went to town with coloring as many block as I could.

You know how boring plane rides can be and this kept me busy and stress free from thinking I was inside a few tons of machinery that was flying at a very high speed.  Really, we humans are crazy if we stop to think about.  Mad Geniuses!!  At 6:30 am I was in Florida and at 10:40am I was across USA in Massachusetts!  Crazy!! But I still love to travel, don’t you?

Be safe and keep creating!!!!

Zenspiration-Inspired Journal Cover

If you have been vising my blog you probably notice my recent obsession with Zenspirations by Joanne Fink.  Well I decided I should have my own “Zenspirations Journal”".”

I found this paper kraft journal at Barnes and Nobles at the clearance shelf for just $5.98 and I just had to have it.  It is the perfect travel size for me and I can know just whip out my journal every time I feel like drawing some Zenspirations.  The paper quality is pretty good so I can use my Micron and gel pens without
worrying too much about bleed through to the next page.  I can’t use the back side but I prefer to use only one side of the page, that way nothing comes trough from behind the page.  After all this journal has like 180 pages so plenty of pages to draw on…Perfect!Winking smile

Of course after looking at the cover with just the words SKETCH on it I decided it needed some pizzaz.  Took out my Micron and went to town with my dangles.  I drew a rod then used the letters and drew dangles all around.  This is the finished cover and I don’t think is too bad.  It makes me smile!

For more information about this method visit the Joanne Fink blog or go to YouTube and look up Sakura channel.  They have all kinds of videos featuring Ms. Fink and the Zenspiration art.

Many blessings and remember to have a little fun!

Butterfly (Zentangle-Inspired Art)

My daughter is a Graphic Design college student and she has a very lovely best friend who is like our adopted daughter.  She is just a great person and just talking to her makes you smile.  Every time she gives me a present is always a hand made card with one of her original drawing and I always cherish them and have them on a little ledge where I put mementos.  She just turned 21 and I made her card using Zentangle(r) and a stencil that reminds me of her.  A butterfly card for a butterfly girl!

I used a butterfly stencil I've had for the longest time (sorry, don't have the original package and don't know the manufacturer) and with my Micron pen drew the outline and filled int the spaces with some tangles.  The color came from my Fiskars Gel Pen.  I used only one color to add accent not to overpower the design and did some shading to add depth.  I wrote her name on the Envelope and also shaded the letter and used the same gel pen to ad some color.

I rather enjoyed creating this and contemplating how long is been since I've know this young woman and what a great friend she has been to my daughter.  We are much better just to have her in our lives, and I hope to keep getting her lovely cards for many years to come!

Enjoy the creative journey to the fullest.

“Happiness” Chinese Symbol No. 1

"Happiness" - a spark that can seem impossible to obtain....yet if you stop for a moment and look back you’ll see it has been in your heart…just welcome it and it will comes in little burst of light. – C.Morales

I got this stencil book from Dover Publications with some cute Chinese symbols and got the idea to do a series of of them and decorate them with tangles.  This is my first one and according to the stencil is represents "Happiness".  If it isn't I’m innocent!!! Surprised smile

I realize after living a few years that happiness isn’t something that comes in big waves, is about just standing still and take stock of the special moments in you life, such as the birth of your child, your first kiss, first dance, first date, etc. Those are the sparks of happiness that touch your heart.  The ones you need to appreciate and know that it is up to you to recognize the little moments of happiness that life throws at you.

Be safe and welcome the sparks of happiness into your heart…

Art Journal Page 20

You know that sometimes is hard to make something when you are not really inspired to, but the lesson I learned is, that is ok, I can always come back and do something later.  This page started with the background which I created using some red and orange spray inks then with a Ranger™ red ink pad and a Stampendous® Cube Marble Texture Cube (TC01), I created the marble effect on the background.  Having done that I took my stencil and drew the shape on the page, and that’s when inspiration dried up .

I taped a strip of washi tape and them stared at the page for the longest time with no idea where to go next.  So I decided to just let it go and walk away and do something else, like going on Pinterest® and see other people’s spectacular work.  What can I say, it was not a very good day to create anything.

About a few days later I came back to the page and still nothing, so I decided to just color the branches with some acrylic paint and see where I would end up.  I finished with the dark brown and still had no idea what else to do, again I walk away! (depressing)

Now after a week of no art journaling I went back to that page and decided to just write something.  I had seen a Art Journaling magazine that week and an artist would paint faces on the page and then write different quotes on them.  So I looked up a few quotes that spoke to me and with a blue gel pen when to town on this tree.

Here are some of the quotes I wrote:
“Great lives all remind us; We can make our lives sublime, and when departing, leave behind us, Footprints on the sands of time…” - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
“It matters not who strait the gate; How charged with punishments the scroll; I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul…” - William E. Henley
“To leave a legacy is to take care of our children and given them a future.” – Consuelo Morales
“Only time will bring forgiveness to our heart…” – Consuelo Morales
I continue to fill in by just writing random words of meaning to me and then decided that this page had ended.  The one thing I realized while writing the quotes down was that I need not to fuss so much about a finished project.  Total control is impossible!

Have a great and safe day and keep searching for more creative joy!
